Interior Design Project for a Scottsdale Vacation Rental: An Overview
Scooped up with big dreams of crafting the ultimate holiday hideaway, the Bourbon Cowboy was set to embody Scottsdale's lively spirit and the rugged allure of the Wild West. All this, without skimping on those modern-day luxuries or losing that cohesive, eye-pleasing vibe.
Interior Design Challenges
Initial Condition:
As a newly purchased property, the Bourbon Cowboy was a blank slate beckoning us to transform it from a standard residential space into vacation rental that is a Destination Not Just A Stay.
Creating Cohesion:
The challenge was to infuse a consistent and engaging theme throughout the property without sacrificing functionality or comfort. We wanted to make sure to infuse parts of the old town Scottsdale vibe into the property as well- this was as important to the owners as it was to me!
Optimizing Layouts:
While there was a lot of potential in the space, the existing layouts did not adequately utilize the available space, making some areas feel cramped and not ideally suited for rental purposes- but it was nothing a little space planning and good design couldn’t handle!
Quick Listing:
As our clients had just acquired the property and their closing date was fast approaching it was time to get to work. Our clients lived out of state, but our team quickly were able to access the property to take measurements and photos and get to work on the design. With a listing date of mid December, getting the property measured and designed as well as furniture and accessories selected, ordered and received was hugely important to our clients timeline.
Design Solutions Implemented
Thematic Design:
Together with the property owners, we adopted a design that married rustic elements with contemporary style to reflect the adventurous spirit of the ‘Bourbon Cowboy.’ This included choosing materials like distressed wood, leather, and wrought iron, complemented by modern fixtures.
Space Reconfiguration:
We re-thought the space planning to ensure that each area was both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Maximizing the entryway to become a place to both receive and entertain guests was key to opening up the space. Furniture was carefully selected to maximize space and enhance the flow between areas.
Major Upgrades:
The owners chose to keep the original paint job and flooring to save both time and money, and our team worked seamlessly around these elements. As the rental gains continues to bring in a steady stream of income, the owners plan to gradually upgrade these features. Rest assured, our design team respects your budget and won't push for decisions that exceed our agreed-upon parameters.
Vacation Rental Transformation
We started with mood boards of the rooms to give an overall feel for each space before moving forward. These came after the space planning so each piece was specifically chosen for both it’s aesthetic appeal as well as it’s size within the room layout. The clients took on a lot of work in the space so they could invest in the furniture and design of the space. We were able to come in and do our favorite part of putting the finishing touches on the space to really knock their socks of during the reveal!
Living Area:
We gave this space a slick makeover - putting in furniture and adding thoughtful decor to create flow for those moving throughout the living spaces. Soft, ambient lighting adds to the inviting vibe. And because it sleeps eight, we ensured the living room and kitchen are ready for a full house. Fun, yet practical - just how we like it!
Bedrooms:
Every bedroom has been individually curated to circle back to the core motif, showcasing decor and art pieces that pay homage to local lineage and cowboy traditions. This includes our cute cow room, the rustic wagon wheel room, the vibrant cactus bedroom, and the majestic horse-themed master suite. We stuck with the traditional white linens but layered in thematic textures and colors to create a cozy and welcoming room for guests.
Office:
In keeping with the overall theme, our “Adobe Zen” office space was designed with these same thematic elements in mind. In keeping with the digital nomads of today, as well as the ideal guests we were trying to reach, creating a remote office workspace was important to the design so we converted this room into an office.
Impact on Bookings, Guest Feedback and Timeline
The redesign significantly boosted the Bourbon Cowboy's marketability, leading to an immediate uptick in bookings and exceptionally positive reviews. Guests have consistently praised the thoughtful decor and the seamless blend of traditional elements with modern luxuries. The design has had such an impact that guests have even reached out to contact the designer for their own personal use. Importantly, the project was completed swiftly and efficiently, ensuring the property was furnished and ready for listing right on schedule.
